Events for the day (April 3, 2008):
-Went to Chinatown because Tina needed to buy dried oranges
-Nakigulo muna sa tindahan ni Shirby kasi nadaanan namin....mga 1 year ko na
rin siyang di nakikita....haha....yey!!
-Went to Bee Tin, dun bumili si Tina ng mga things niya....
-Went to Mercury Drugstore Ongpin to visit Krisan....took a picture of her....1 year
ko na rin siyang di nakikita....hehe....tapos bumili kami dun ng Zest-O
-Rode the LRT to UN Avenue....
-Shopped in Little India
-Assad Minimart: Bought Indian Maggi, 2 samosas, Indian Sweets (ladoo, black
jamon with coconut and chocolate barfi), and 3 cans of Vimto
-Talwar's Indian Grocery: Tal bought her bindi set mura na, marami pa!! Stick-ons
lahat. Later that day, I also bought my own money envelope there.
-Uncle Ed's Grocery: Bought my DVD (Jodhaa Akbar ~ Nice Film!!), then Tal
bought her own rose milk....Tina freaked out, and backed out on the green
cardamom milk....
-Little India Grocery: Bought my Hindi prayer book....
-Assad Cafe: EAT EAT EAT EAT....ordered Beef Masala, Punjabi Fish Curry,
chapattis and naans, we also ate the samosas and a ladoo and 2 choco
barfis, and drank the 3 bottles of Vimto. After eating, we tried on Tal's bindi
set....it was a lot of fun to have red stuff on your forehead....haha....
-Hindu Temple: waited for Ashok Maharaj, the high priest, but he wasn't there. I
ended up being Tal and Tina's tour guide. Explained all the god's biographies and
a bit on Indian customs. Took pictures of Indian instruments, plus 2 photos of my
yoga-ing. I attempted a backbend, but to my excitement, my head fell down the
floor....haha....Good thing the floor was soft because of the carpet....
-Went to Tina's house next; fixed her can for her camping trip the following day.
Before Tal and I left, I murdered Tal's face with a whole lot-a bindis....

hindi pala....ouch ang hapdi
Tina: Bubuhatin ka namin!! Ay wait, may band aid ata ako dito....(hanap siya)
Gilbert: Naks naman!! Girl scout nga talaga!!!!
Tina: NAUBUSAN AKO NG BAND AID....
6. (Pumunta ako sa CKSC a bit before 1, meeting place and time namin, when I
arrived, I was shocked to see both of them there)
Gilbert: O Tina!! Akala ko ba sabi mo kagabi malelate ka??
Tina: Hindi, ikaw yun nalate!!
Tal: Naunahan ka namin....
Gilbert: Onga, e diba sabi mo kagabi na malelate ka??
Tina: Oo nga, pero ikaw pa rin nalate sa ating 3!!

4. (Sa restaurant)
Tal: Sigurado kang marunong kang mag-order ah....
Gilbert: Oo, akong bahala sa inyo!!
Tina: NORMAL MENU!!!! NORMAL MENU!!!! (referring to the menu for
non-Indian food. The restaurant has 2 kinds of menu kasi, yung Indian
and non-Indian)
3.Gilbert (to the Filipino tindera): Ate, salwar kameez ba yan??
Ate: Hindi ko alam eh. (faces her Indian amo) Ate!! Anu daw ito??
(Tina whispering to me: Mas marunong ka pa dun sa tindera....)
Indian: Ay, kutta pyjama ito!!
Gilbert (to the Indian): Do you have a sherwani?? The more casual....
Indian: Oh, I don't have stock today. If you can come back tomorrow, I get your
size today, then you may get it tomorrow.
Gilbert: Oh sorry, this is my only free time. If ever I'll come back tomorrow, how
much would the sherwani be??
Indian: Oh, about 5 or 6....
Gilbert: 5 or 6??
Indian: Yes, about 5 OR 6 THOUSAND....
Gilbert: HUWAT?!?!?!?!?! (napasigaw talaga ako sa tindahan....super
embarassing, buti kaming 3, the tindera and yung Indian woman and
her asawa and anak lang andun....)
2.Tina (referring to her can na bubutasin for her camping trip): Hala!!!! Panu na
to?? Baka mahirap to?? Kelangan ko kasing butasan yung lata para
gawing oven. Anu to?? Kelangan ko pa tong i-SEE-SAW!! (Saw lang
dapat....)

Terms to remember:
- bindu/bindi - ornamental item placed on the forehead, usually red in color,
usually jewel studded, or at least shiny. This is in line with the kumkum (for
marriage purposes only) and the tikkal (for religious purposes only)
-ladoo - sweet yellow balls made with lentils, ghee (parang butter) and spices
-black jamon with coconut - something like ladoos, dark brown in color, and
coconut coated
-chocolate barfi - soft Indian sweet....chocolate flavor, VERY VERY SWEET....
-masala - spices
-Punjabi - from the rootword Punjab, a state in India, North Western to be exact,
bordering Pakistan.
-sherwani - a male knee length polo
-kutta pyjama - sort of pants....pyjama nga eh....
-salwar kameez- salwar refers to the loose pyjama-like pants, usually paired up
with the kameez (think of the word KAMISETA); refers to the knee length dress.
The salwar kameez is usually worn by women in India, but it is a unisex attire in
Pakistan.

HAHA....Hi Kasey....sa may UN Avenue....it's a very VERY small community, small than say a third of Chinatown....It's not really a popular "tourist spot" in the Philippines....because they're not advertising it....but I think the Indians are happy in their little community....haha....
